Strapless bras — the truth about what works
A strapless bra works entirely through the underband. There are no straps, so 100% of the support, lift and hold comes from the band gripping your ribcage. This means: a tight enough band is non-negotiable, and the band must have silicone grip strips to prevent sliding. Without these, any strapless bra will slowly drop throughout the day.
What to look for in a good strapless bra
- Firm underband — should feel snug when you fasten it. You want to go down a band size from your usual size for a strapless bra.
- Silicone grip strips inside the top and bottom edges of the band
- Full-cup or balcony coverage — prevents spillage when straps aren't there to hold things in place
- Boning or busk structure in the cups to provide shape without straps
- Convertible straps included — most good strapless bras come with detachable straps for when you need them
For DD+ cups, a truly effective strapless bra is one of the hardest lingerie items to find. The larger and heavier the bust, the more structural work the band must do — and cheap or lightly constructed strapless bras simply can't manage this. Bras By MaMloo is launching a specialist strapless range for DD–K cup sizes. Message us on WhatsApp to be notified the moment it arrives.

Notify MeAdhesive bra cups — how they work and who they're for
Adhesive cups stick directly to your skin — no band, no straps. Each cup adheres independently to the underside of the breast, and the two cups clip together at the front to provide lift. They are the best solution for truly backless or strapless outfits.
They work best when:
- Your skin is clean, dry and product-free in the adhesion area (no moisturiser, oil or perfume)
- You apply them with warm hands, pressing firmly from the outer breast inward
- You store them in their original case to preserve the adhesive between uses
- You wash them gently with mild soap after each use and air dry completely before storing
Most adhesive cups come in "nude" tones calibrated for fair skin — they can show under light fabrics on darker skin. At Bras By MaMloo, we're sourcing adhesive cups in deeper skin-match tones as part of our full-cup breast solutions range. WhatsApp us to be first to know.
Nipple covers — when and how to use them
Nipple covers (pasties) are not a bra — they provide no support or lift. They're for one purpose: preventing visible nipples through fabric. Use them when you want to go braless but the outfit or fabric makes coverage necessary.
- Works best on: sheer tops, light fabrics, summer dresses, linen, cotton jersey
- Reusable — wash gently with mild soap and air dry to preserve adhesive
- Available in multiple skin tones — always choose your closest match
- Not suitable for: heavy activity or heat where sweating will affect the adhesive
Fashion tape — the emergency kit item every woman needs
Fashion tape is double-sided — skin-safe on one side, adheres to fabric on the other. Every South African woman should have a roll in her bag for events, occasions and unexpected wardrobe moments.
- Keep a plunging neckline in place without it gaping
- Secure a strapless top that keeps slipping
- Close the gap on a button-front shirt over a larger bust
- Tape bra straps so they can't be seen under the fabric
- Keep a wrap dress closed when you sit down
